Step 1

Open Find investors

With the Startup Pack on your account, open Find investors from the dashboard menu. Choose how you would like to look: Fund directory (funds worldwide) or Companies that raised (UK only for now).

What you should see: The two choices, each with a line on what it does.

Step 2

Browse the fund directory

In Fund directory, search for a fund by name, or choose a stage, a sector and a place, and the type of investor.

Every fund shows its stages, cheque size, sectors, where it invests and whether it does SEIS or EIS, taken from the fund's own website. The Source link and the date it was checked are on every fund.

The fund directory: each fund's stages, cheque size, sectors and where it invests, with a button to open its pitch form or email it

What you should see: A count of the funds that match, and a card for each fund.

Step 3

Match your round

Open Match your round. Under Your round, fill in what you are Raising, the Stage, your Sector and Where you are, and tick SEIS or EIS if it applies. Press Save for my team (or Save my round).

Tick Fits my round to keep only the funds whose stage, cheque size and sector fit it.

Fits my round: a saved round of £400k pre-seed in B2B software narrows the directory to the 3 funds that match

What you should see: The directory narrows to the funds that fit, and the count updates.

Step 4

Pitch each fund its own way

Press Open pitch form to open the fund's own form, or Email your pitch to open your own email program. PitchWhip sends nothing to a fund from the directory.

Mark a fund Contacted or Not a fit so your team can see where you are. Export funds (CSV) downloads the list.

Apply for me, which fills funds' pitch forms for you, is opening in stages. When it is on for your account, an Apply for me box appears on the funds it can take.

What you should see: The mark beside the fund's name.

Step 5

See who backed UK companies like yours

In Companies that raised, under Research comparable rounds, pick Your sector and your Round preferences (round size, how recent and company age). To start from companies you know, open Look up companies you know and type them in. Press Find investors.

PitchWhip reads recent UK share issues from Companies House filings. Investors lists the organisations that took part, most comparable companies backed first; private individuals are counted, never named. Companies shows each company's rounds and the filings they came from. Press Keep looking for more.

What you should see: The Investors and Companies tabs under Results, with export buttons for both.

If something is not right

Common problems

I can't tick Fits my round.

Type the amount you are raising, and save your round, first.

A fund has no pitch button.

It has not published a pitch form or address. The card says how it takes pitches, for example warm introductions only.

Companies that raised found nothing outside the UK.

It reads UK filings only for now. The fund directory covers funds worldwide.

It says the day's look-ups are used.

Companies that raised and Find companies share your team's daily Companies House look-ups. The line under the search says how many are left.

I don't see Apply for me.

It is opening in stages, so it may not be on for your account yet. Every fund's pitch button still works.

Still stuck? The full guide covers every setting, or write to hello@pitchwhip.com and a person replies within a working day.
